The Alkanet plant originated in the Mediterranean, and it bears blue, purple, or white flowers, similar to those of forget-me-nots.
The root powder is used to colour wines, and carrier oil tinctures. It creates a beautiful soft grey to mauve, to deeper shades of purple.
Annatto are the seeds from the Achiote tree native to tropical regions from Mexico to Brazil.
The seeds are commonly used as a natural food colouring as it can impart a bright colour that ranges from yellow to a deep orange-red. This is the beautiful orange colour achieved in our Orange Poppy Seed soap.
Cocoa powder occurs when the fat, called cocoa butter, is removed from the cacao beans during processing. The leftover dried solids are ground into the product sold as cocoa powder.
Cocoa powder is used to create a soft muted brown colour in our soaps. And, it imparts a very light, subtle chocolate scent.
Derived from bamboo and is 100% natural, and is known for it’s deep cleansing and exfoliating properties, without dehydrating the skin. A gentle but effective cleanser for all skin types, especially acne-prone.
Used in Nana’s Natural soap to achieve a subtle grey to various shades of black.
Is hand-mined and harvested from ancient salt beds deep under the Himalayan Mountains. It is known to be rich in over 80 minerals and trace elements, most notable being calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper, and iron. This salt is considered to be the purest form of salt available.
In Nana’s Natural soap, it is used as a decoration to enhance the beauty of our soaps.
Is a natural dye obtained from the roots of a mountain rhubarb variety that grows in the Himalayans.
Used in Nana’s Natural soap to provide varying tones from pinks to reds.
Is an ancient dye that can be traced back as far as 5000 BC. Derived from the plant family of Fabaceae Leguminosae, commonly known as legumes, pea, and beans. This was one of the original sources of indigo dye.
In Nana’s Natural soap we can achieve a subtle grey/blue, to an almost a deep navy.
The Red Sandalwood tree is from the south eastern mountain range of India. The tree is valued for the rich red colour of its wood. The wood is ground to a powder and is used to create carrier oil tinctures.
Nana’s Natural uses it to create beautiful shades of red to a deep burgundy.
Is a sea botanical that grows in both fresh and salt water and is very high in nutrients such as, Vitamin B1, B2, B3, Copper, and Iron. It also contains antioxidants that can fight free radicals and inhibit production of some anti-inflammatory signalling molecules.
It creates a beautiful subtle, muted green colour in our soaps.
Is a member of the ginger family commonly used in Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern cooking. Turmeric has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes. For skin care Turmeric is reputed to help reduce redness and dark circles, and carry antioxidants properties good for mature skin.
